Laundromat, the Dutch Rory Gallagher tribute band, have been on the road for the past twelve years keeping the music and memory of the great Irish bluesman alive. The inspiration for the formation of Laundromat arose out of a contact from Klaas and Annet Spijker (Cafe Taste) to Danny Vlaspoel in June 2000. After two very successful Rory Gallagher tributes in Leeuwarden they were looking for new bands, in particular for a Dutch band to perform 100% Rory music., Danny, a Rory fan since the age of 14 who had seen the Man perform quite a few times, was pleased and honoured to take on the challenge. Leeuwarden 2001 was the launch-pad for the new band and they were absolutely delighted with the reception to their 10 songs /one hour set from an audience of seasoned Gallagher fans from Ireland, Germany, England, Belgium, Scotland, Norway and the Netherlands. They were really struck by the depth of enthusiasm and warmth of the response. As the audience sang along with every song and hung on every note they felt that this was something very special. There was almost a spiritual feeling about the great influence of one man – Rory Gallagher.
The present line-up comprises founder members Danny Vlaspoel ( Boys named sue ) on guitar and Joeke Wouda on bass along
with drummer John Martin ( ex-Wolfpin ) and vocalist Freddy Koridon makes for a combination of
musicianship and faithful interpretation of Rory’s material..
Frequent appearances at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival, the British Rory Gallagher Tribute and the Annual Dutch Rory tribute in Wijk aan Zee have been among the many high points for the band over the years. In addition they have had the pleasure of performing with ex-Rory Gallagher band members, Ted McKenna joining them on drums in 2007 and Mark Feltham on blues harp in 2012. Extensive tours round Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands have built a loyal following who particularly appreciate Laundromat’s wide-ranging play list and sensitive feel for the very best of Rory’s music. Laundromat set out to cover the full range of Rory’s repertoire, from hard driving blues, to explosive rockers right through to emotive ballads and acoustic numbers. As a treat for true connoisseurs of Rory’s music they also dip into areas of his work seldom covered live by other tribute bands songs such as
‘Slumming Angel’ off his last album, Fresh Evidence, or the gentle and heart-breaking ‘Easy come and easy go’ from Jinx,, Edged in blue, I’m not awake yet and many, many more.
This is a Rory Gallagher Tribute band with a real difference – don’t miss out on them !
